Tamanna Saeed Shaikh is an advocate practising at Mumbai, enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa on 12 August 2023 under Roll No. MAH/5287/2023. Her chambers are at Malad (West), and she appears before the courts and statutory authorities of Mumbai — most often before the Charity Commissioner, Maharashtra, at Worli.
Public trusts and charitable institutions
A substantial part of the practice concerns public trusts and charitable institutions: their registration under the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950; the reporting of changes in trustees and in trust property under Section 22; applications for the Charity Commissioner’s sanction under Section 36 where trust property is to be sold, exchanged, gifted or leased; accounts and audit compliance; and enquiries and appeals arising under the Act.
Trusts, schools, madrasas, mosques, temples, hospitals and charitable societies in Mumbai deal with the Charity Commissioner’s office continually. The procedure rewards familiarity with it — knowing which form is required, what the office expects to see attached, and how long each stage tends to take — and it is that familiarity the chambers bring to a matter.
Criminal and civil litigation
In criminal matters the practice includes bail and anticipatory bail applications under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, private complaints, follow-up on FIRs, and appearance at trial before the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court at Borivali and the Sessions Court at Dindoshi.
In civil matters it includes suits relating to property and possession, tenancy and encroachment, cooperative housing society disputes, succession and probate, and proceedings on dishonoured cheques under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
Matters brought by women
A significant number of the matters brought to these chambers are brought by women: applications under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; claims for maintenance; matrimonial proceedings, including under Muslim personal law; questions of custody; and the recovery of stridhan. These enquiries are attended to by Adv. Tamanna Shaikh herself, in English, Hindi, Marathi or Urdu as the client prefers, and the first meeting is always private.
Registrations and documentation
Alongside litigation, the chambers handle documentation that trusts, small businesses and families in Malad regularly need: GST registration, amendment and cancellation, and replies to GST notices; NGO Darpan registration with NITI Aayog; Maharashtra Government Gazette notifications for a change of name; and the drafting of legal notices, affidavits, police complaints and agreements.
How matters are handled
- First consultation. Every matter is discussed directly with Adv. Tamanna Shaikh. Bring whatever papers exist — nothing needs to be in order yet.
- Plain-language explanation. Clients are told at the outset what the procedure involves, which authority will hear it, roughly how long each stage tends to take, and what the fees will be, so that there are no surprises later in the file.
- Papers settled in chambers. Drafts are prepared and checked against each other before anything is filed, so an application is not held up by a mismatch between documents.
- Appearance and follow-through. The matter is filed before the right authority and followed through to hearing, with the client kept informed at each date.

About the guides on this site
The legal information guides and free tools are written for people in Mumbai and Maharashtra who want to understand a procedure before they act. Each guide is prepared from the statute, the rules, official notifications and circulars, and the websites of the authorities concerned, such as the Charity Commissioner, DGPS, IGR Maharashtra and MahaRERA.
- Dated: each guide shows when it was last updated, and states the position as understood at that time.
- Updated when the law changes: guides are revised when amendments, rules or court rulings change the position, for example the 2025 trust amendments and the 2026 housing society rules.
- Corrections: if you notice an error, write to tamashaikh123@gmail.com and it will be checked and corrected.
- Not advice: the guides describe the general position. What applies to a particular matter depends on its own facts.
