Most Charity Commissioner work in Maharashtra, from change reports to annual filings, now goes through the department’s online system at charity.maharashtra.gov.in. Before a trust can file anything online, it needs its own login, and its existing register entries (Schedule I) must be entered and verified. Trusts that skip this step find they cannot file a change report when they need to. This guide explains the process.

After approval

Proof of filing
The acknowledgement number shows you filed within the 90 days

Step 1: Request the trust’s login

  • The trust requests login credentials using its registration details: the PTR office, registration number and the trust’s name.
  • The regional office checks the request against its records.
  • A user ID and a password link are sent to the trust’s registered email address.

Use an email address and mobile number that the trust will keep using, not a personal email of a trustee who may leave.

Step 2: Enter the existing record (Schedule I)

The trust enters its current register entries exactly as they stand in the last accepted change report or registration order: the name, objects, deed details, mode of succession, trustees, financial figures and movable property. Immovable property is entered separately, item by item, with survey, CTS and plot details.

This is a copy of what the office already records, not a place to report new changes. If something has changed, it is reported afterwards by a change report.

Step 3: Verification

The entries are checked by the office (the Superintendent and the Assistant Charity Commissioner) against the physical register. Once approved, the electronic Schedule I becomes the trust’s working record online.

Step 4: File online

With the verified record in place, the trust can file a change report in Schedule III online, upload the supporting papers as PDFs, and pay the fee. Each filing generates an acknowledgement number, which is proof of filing within the 90 days. See change report filing.

Where trusts get stuck

  • The registration certificate or last change report order cannot be found, so the existing record cannot be entered accurately
  • The email address on record belongs to a former trustee
  • Earlier changes were never reported, so the register and the actual board differ
  • Property details (survey, CTS, area) are missing or inconsistent with the deeds

Where the register is badly out of date, the old changes are usually reported in sequence before the latest one. See late change reports.

Frequently asked questions

Can we file a change report without a login?

Online filing needs the trust’s own login and a verified Schedule I. The office can guide on any step that still needs a physical filing.

We have lost our registration certificate. What now?

A certified copy of the register entries can be obtained from the PTR office on payment of the prescribed charges.

Who should hold the login?

A trustee authorised by a resolution, using the trust’s own email address, so that access survives changes in the board.
