NGO DARPAN is the NITI Aayog portal on which trusts, societies and Section 8 companies enrol to receive a unique DARPAN ID. The ID is needed for government grants, and it is asked for in FCRA and CSR-1 applications and by many banks. This guide gives the documents to prepare and the registration steps in order.

Who can register
Any voluntary organisation registered as a trust, a society or a Section 8 (not-for-profit) company, with its own PAN. In Maharashtra, a trust or society is usually registered with the Charity Commissioner before it applies.
Documents to prepare first
- Registration certificate of the trust, society or company, with the registration number, date and registering authority
- The trust deed, memorandum and rules, or memorandum and articles of association
- PAN card of the organisation
- Name, designation, PAN and Aadhaar of the office bearers or key members to be entered. Keep these ready for at least three people, such as the president, secretary and treasurer or the managing trustee
- Mobile number and email of the chief functionary, for one-time passwords
- Registered office address and proof of it
- Details of the sectors and districts the organisation works in, and its main achievements
- Details of funding sources, where applicable
The single most common reason an application is held up is a mismatch: the organisation’s name on the PAN must match the registration certificate exactly, including spelling and punctuation. Fix any mismatch first.
Step by step
- Sign up on the NGO DARPAN portal with the organisation’s name, PAN, and the chief functionary’s mobile number and email. The PAN is validated online and one-time passwords are sent for verification.
- Log in with the credentials sent to the registered email.
- Enter the organisation’s details: type of organisation, registration number, date and authority, registered address and contact details.
- Enter the members: the chief functionary and the office bearers, with their PAN and Aadhaar. Details are cross-checked, so they must match the identity documents.
- Enter the work profile: key issues or sectors, operational states and districts, achievements and sources of funds.
- Upload the documents as clear PDF or image files, within the size limits the portal shows.
- Review and submit. Any declaration or authentication step the portal asks for is completed by the chief functionary.
- Receive the DARPAN ID. After verification, the unique ID is generated and the certificate can be downloaded from the account.
After registration
- Keep the profile current. When trustees change, update DARPAN after the change report is accepted by the Charity Commissioner, so that the two records agree.
- Use the same name, address and office bearers on DARPAN, PAN, the bank account, 12A/80G and FCRA.
- Keep the certificate with the trust’s records; banks, funders and CSR donors ask for it.
