That covers all 15 talukas of the district: Alibag, Panvel, Murud, Pen, Uran, Karjat, Khalapur, Roha, Sudhagad, Mangaon, Tala, Shrivardhan, Mhasla, Mahad and Poladpur. The Panvel Municipal Corporation, which is in Raigad district, includes Kharghar, Kamothe, Kalamboli, New Panvel and Taloja, so trusts there also go to Alibag.

Registering a new trust in Raigad
The steps above follow the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950 and the Charity Commissioner’s own citizen guide:
- Prepare the trust. The Act covers trusts for a public, religious or charitable purpose, including temples, maths, churches and societies registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
- Apply within time. For a trust created after the Act came into force, section 18 requires the application within three months of its creation. The application is made online on charity.maharashtra.gov.in.
- Keep the SRN. The portal gives a reference number for the application. The citizen guide asks applicants to appear before the office with the original documents within 30 days.
- Inquiry. Under sections 19 and 20, the officer inquires whether the trust exists, whether it is a public trust and what property belongs to it, and records findings.
- Public notice. Under Rule 7A of the Bombay Public Trusts Rules, 1951, notice of the inquiry is published and objections can be made within 30 days of the last publication.
The full list of documents and the government fee are explained in how to register a public trust, step by step and what registration costs.
