Mumbra sits along the Thane creek within the limits of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Many of the enquiries from Mumbra and Kausa concern mosques, madrasas, community halls and welfare trusts, and the question that comes up first is often which authority the institution answers to.

Trusts in Mumbra
Public trusts in Mumbra are registered with the Thane office, not Worli. Typical work is the change report after a trustee dies or steps down, regularising boards whose records have not been updated for years, and registering new educational and welfare trusts.
- A trustee has died, resigned or been replaced: a change report is ordinarily due within 90 days. Check your date with the deadline calculator, and see the trustee change formats (मराठी नमुने).
- Selling, leasing or mortgaging trust property needs prior Section 36 sanction.
- Since 1 September 2025, perpetual trustees cannot exceed one-fourth of the board unless the deed provides for them, which matters for many older boards.
A mosque, madrasa or dargah may be a waqf rather than a public trust, even if it has a trust registration number. If it is a waqf, the Waqf Board deals with it. See Waqf or public trust? before the next filing.
Documents and family matters
Gazette name changes, affidavits and notices are handled online and by appointment, so the distance from Malad rarely matters. For women facing a breakdown at home, the women’s rights guides cover maintenance, residence and stridhan; see also what to do if you have been forced out of the marital home, and the free maintenance affidavit helper.
How a Mumbra matter runs
Trust and documentation matters usually begin by telephone or WhatsApp, with papers sent electronically; attendance at the Thane office is arranged as part of the work. A meeting at chambers in Malad West is arranged where it is genuinely useful. For a contested case in a court at Thane, an honest view is given at the outset about whether it is better conducted by an advocate who practises there daily.

- The trust deed and the PTR registration number, or the waqf registration details
